English Translation of "Sajanwa Bairi Ho Gaye Hamar"

One of Mukesh's many greats...he is relaying the agonizing tale of a woman who has lost her love.
I'm not sure about some of these lines, if someone can correct them, that would be great!

Song: Sajanwa Bairi Ho Gaye Hamar
Singer: Mukesh
Movie: Teesri Kasam
Actors: Raj Kapoor, Waheeda Rehman

Sajanwa bairi ho gaye hamaar...
My love has become my enemy...

Sajanwa bairi ho gaye hamaar
Chitthiyaan ho to har koi baache
Bhaag na baache koi
Karamwaa bairi ho gaye hamar
My love has turned against me
If it was a letter, I would read it
But no one can read fate
Even my actions have turned against me

Jaye base pardes sajanwa sautan ke bharmaaye...
My love has gone far away and has settled with another woman...

Jaye base pardes sajanwa sautan ke bharmaaye
Na sandes na koi khabariya rut aaye rut jaaye
Doob gaye hum beech bhanwar mein
Karke sola par
Sajanwa bairi ho gaye hamar
My love has gone far away and has settled with another woman
There has been no news from him; the seasons come and go
I'm drowning now in a whirlpool
After swimming through the worst part
My love has turned into my enemy

Sooni sej god mori sooni maram na jaane koi...
My bed is empty, my lap is lonely. No one knows how to soothe me.

Sooni sej god mori sooni maram na jaane koi
Chhatpat tadpe preet bichari mamta aansoon roye
Na koi is paar hamaara
Na koi us paar
Sajanwa bairi ho gaye hamar
My bed is empty, my lap is lonely. No one knows how to soothe me.
My unfortunate love for him tortures me; I shed tears of maternal love.
There is no one on this side of the shore to call my own.
There is no one on that side
My love has betrayed me.

Chitthiyaan ho to har koi baache
Bhaag na baache koi
Karamwaa bairi ho gaye hamar

If it was a letter, I would read it
But no one can read fate

Even my actions have turned against me

  1. Hello, you are doing a good job. (Your blog is cross linked on mine).

But, have you considered using Google transliteration scheme to provide devanagari script? It is sometimes jarring to read transliterations.

  8. Its a sad song from the days when there were no phones or internet to keep in touch. Some poor lady has been abandoned by her despot husband, who now is out of reach. In today’s world, women are not so helpless anymore and a lady in such circumstances would probably kick the guy & go on with her life, but in olden times, such sad songs came to be sung.
